really going on in the buckeye state. dr. mark smith is the president of ohio christian university and vice chairman of the ohio chapter of the safe and freedom coalition. good morning, dr. smith. >> good morning, ali, how are you this morning. >> i'm doing well. it's not just the fox news poll that shows president obama is leading in the all important state of ohio. there is also a quinnipiac, "new york times" poll that gives him a 10-point lead. what makes you think these polls are wrong? >> well, first of all, i'm on the ground here. and there is absolutely no way in ohio that this is a 10 point race right now. and what these polls are not picking up is the voter intensity among the faith-based community in particular. i work with the catholics for ohio. i last night spoke at the african-american -- with the african-american community. i work with the faith and freedom coalition and the intensity among the churches, among the catholics, among the african-american community, this time is not on the side of president obama.

we are seeing major efforts done by these groups and those groups are all working to turn out the vote. give you an example. 1.5 million voters have been contacted by faith and freedom. 1.2 million mail orders are being sent out. 475,000 catholics who didn't vote last time are being contacted. there is a faith-based effort that is going on that is larger than anything i have ever seen before in my history and double what it was in the 2008 race. that report on intensity is voters is great. >> report on friday suggests that the absentee ballots show that enthusiasm that you are talking about. coming in far in favor of republicans up to this point with some other counties not reporting. but the real clear politics average i think the best barometer of polls shows romney back about 5 points in ohio. what has inspired that base that you are talking about to get so excited?

>> well, in 2008, we came off of 8 years of george bush and the faith based community has embraced george bush and had someone been disappointed with some the effects of that. then we had john mccain who really never came out and endorsed the faith community at all. and then we had a president elected and all of us were excited. i was excited with the hope and change message. hoping some good things happen. i vote for democrats. i vote for republicans. i was excited about that. after four years, looking at issues like same sex marriage, all of the life issues which the president does not stand for, and you see religious liberty being attacked as never before in this country. the faith-based community now understands what the alternative is is. and we understand that mitt romney, while some have said well, he is a mormon he is not an evangelical may not be the candidate of our religious choice, i can say with a

employees with 14,000 administrators. and we can tell they are not able to control this huge human resources monster that's been created and obviously these people are not trained. the equipment is not being operated properly. and then these folks that are hired are not vetted properly. this is what we get. >> traveled quite a bit there are some great folks there who say hi and do a great job. others, i guess some bad apples that are ruining it for the rest of the bunch. what is the process here. do we end up privatizing this once again? what's your take? >> well, first of all t.s.a. doesn't do a very good job in recruiting. i'm in the nation's capitol this morning. here they are advertising on the top of pizza boxes and ads on discount gas station pumps little signs there to hire people to work for t.s.a. then they don't vet people. we have the incidents -- we

so said it was a terrorist attack. susan rice coming out five days later even on the sunday talk show saying it was spontaneous. >> related to this anti-prophet mohammed film. >> i don't know what's worse. whether the administration intentionally mislead the public as the critics charge for political reasons or whether this was a massive intelligence failure that our intelligence officers either cannot get access to benghazi or don't have the tools or resources to find out what was really happening on the ground because by the way witnesses said it right away. the witnesses said it people there knew it this was a terrorist attack. >> confirmed within 24 hours it was being labeled that. even being labeled something that related to an off chute of al qaeda. i agree with you. i don't care this covers susan rice or the administration at all. we already knew they evolved. the question is why.

extend the mortgage relief act after january 1st and the homeowners don't have enough time to short sale the properties? >> one of the things we talked about was the mortgage relief act passed in 2007. that basically said if your primary residence and foreclosed on and deficiency and forgiven don't have to pay a tax on it that expires this year. now, the finance committee a few weeks ago bipartisan ruled or passed to extend it congress has not ruled on it yet and voted on it. i'm assuming that's going to happen particularly because of the election year. probably be extended at least one year. if that happens, it's great for america. if it doesn't happen. that could be devastating. bankruptcy also go through the roof. i believe because the commerce finance committee did it. we're probably going to get it done probably next 30, 60 days before election day it will happen. thank you. please, what your name? >> barbara. >> okay, barbara, how can i help you? >> if you have an investment property, and you are going to

have to go bankrupt because of the investment property, but you have your kids' college money sitting in the bank, is the college money protected? >> well, you know, that's interesting. because that's more of an asset protection type of issue but essentially what she is saying is i think it's going to depend on how the money is set up. for example, if you have it set up in certain kind of funds and protection which is one of the things we talked about is asset protection. tax lawyers and people do asset protection can have the funds set up in i think that could be exempt where they can't go after it because essentially it's money put away but it can be protected in certain fashion. if the money is just sitting there in a bank account, a savings account, a money market. a cd. that's unprotected asset. if there is a judgment, even though your intent is to have it for to pay for college funds, if it's not done in the right way, getting professional, legal advice from a tax attorney as a protection expert then it could be vulnerable. always we covered this in our

number seven with this one right now. >> we have to tell you about this very peculiar part of the teacher's union contract out of michigan, this is the bay city public schools and this outfit called the mackinac center for public policy has read through the teacher's contract and unearthed something shocking almost to the point you can't believe it. >> renegotiating this contract right now. what has expired at the end of june are these provisions which could come back in to effect. this is mind blowing, okay? these are the rules for teachers who are under the influence of alcohol in the classroom. this is five strike rule. five strikes. first offense receive a written reprimand. second offense three day suspension if you are drunk in a classroom. then the third offense you get a five day suspension without pay. and mandatory counseling counseling. a fourth offense would get you a 10-day suspension without pay and mandatory counseling. finally on the fifth offense, you get terminated. >> and if that's not enough

for your jaw to drop, listen to the punishment if you are caught with drugs. even selling drugs in the classroom. first offense a written reprimand and mandatory counseling. are you kidding me? second offense three day suspension without pay. third offense for drugs around your children is termination. what's interesting is it is pretty much zero tolerance when it comes to the students in that classroom. middle school and high school students found under the influence of drugs or alcohol five day suspension. minimum or a three day suspension with counseling on the first offense. >> what sort of a precedent does that set for the kids? that's the part that stuck out for me the most how hypothetical this would be. you had these teachers who are drunk in the classroom teaching our children and then you say to the kids, look, we have a different set of rules for you. you can't -- you only get three days or three strikes and you are out of the school or expelled. >> by the way, we should mention one more time that

become another tool for the terrorists. joining us is texas congressman ted poe leading the charge on this. nice to he so you this, no. >> good morning, clayton. >> educate our audience this is all new to me as well. these different terrorist organizations who have a lot of twitter followers. we will put this up on our screen. that hezbollah has 27,300 twitter followers. hamas 17,000 twitter followers. al shabaab 16,000 twitter followers. to happen? >> it happens because they use twitter and twitter allows that to occur. in all fairness to twitter no one has asked them to take down these sites that these terrorist organizations use. that's the purpose of the letter asking the fbi to request a twitter that we not allow these terrorist organizations that preach not just hate but immediate violence against americans and others throughout the world take down these sites because that's how they communicate with other criminals in their

organization constitutionally they are not allowed to do that we just want these sites taken down. >> do you believe the fbi is not doing anything on this? is this the rub from congress that the fbi is not looking at these twitter accounts and monitoring it? is that the answer you want from the fbi? >> well, i'm not sure what the fbi is doing. i suspect they probably are monitoring the accounts. i would suspect they are doing that but, we want the accounts to be taken down because they communicate with other terrorists and promote immediate violence against americans and other people throughout the world so, they don't have the -- these groups don't have the right to use an american company to promote terrorism throughout the world and that's why we have requested that they not be allowed to use these twitter accounts. >> right. we have reached out to -- fox news has reached out of to the fbi for a statement. we have not heard back yet from the fbi on that let me

play devil's advocate here wouldn't it be more beneficial to have these twitter accounts out there because we could monitor them? we could see who is following the account of hamas trace it back. find the linkages that way. is this not another opportunity for us to maybe educate ourselves about maybe homegrown terrorists, terrorist cells living within the united states and other places? >> sure, that is a way to following what they are doing. reach a point still keep up with these organizations which i think we have the intelligence capability to do so, or to allow them to continue to recruit other members, recruit violence throughout the world so it's a tradeoff. you have to make up your mind whether or not you want the information or you want really not to allow them to promote terrorism throughout the united states? i think we can keep up with these groups. we are capable of doing that we have great intelligence services. but they shouldn't be allowed to recruit on the internet to

commit murder against the united states, americans, or violence. >> and you have actually met with twitter. you met with the folks from twitter and what did they tell you? they would probably if they were requested by the fbi to take down the accounts, they will probably do so like youtube and facebook has done in the past. so they are really waiting for a request from the fbi. several of us have written director muler a letter asking him to take down these accounts or at least explain why they have not requested. so we have asked the fbi to weigh in on this. so that we can get some response. and figure out what the best way to handle this advertising of terrorism. >> yeah it is bizarre to me to think about the types of things that people tweet like i'm having a sandwich for lunch and think that hamas has a twitter account with 140 characterization to tell us what they are doing.

governor huckabee, welcome. >>governor huckabee: thank you. >>clayton: the main story, the top story in a lot of the newspapers, the alleged coverup or the question of an alleged coverup from the white house on benghazi-gate. when did the white house know it was a terrorist attack? why did they wait so long to report that as the case? now we have this commentary coming out from the director of national intelligence blaming them rather than the white house. hung how they are taking the fall. that is what happens in a political environment. the fact is, it is indisputable this was clear evidence, long before susan rice was on the talk shows and before jake carney denied this was terrorism and said this was about the film. there are a lot of questions that must be answered. americans ought to demand we know why didn't you tell us the

truth? i have been pretty blunt about this from day one. our government lied to us. i don't know who is responsible. i do know we have been lied to. there has been a coverup. that is unquestionable at this stage. >>dave: you compared it to watergate saying it was, perhaps, worse. this statement from the director of national intelligence. in the immediate aftermath there was information that led to us assess that the attack began spontaneously following protests earlier that day at our embassy in cairo. we provided that initial assessment to executive branch officials and members of congress who used that information to discuss the attack publicly and provide updates as they become available. through our investigation we emphasized that information gathered was preliminary and evolving." governor, it seemed they jumped to an immediate conclusion that rather than saying we are very cautious while gaining the information, it had to do with be youtube

clip, antiprophet mohammed clip. why might they have misled the american people if, in fact, they had this information? >>governor huckabee: the only credible reason they would do this is because part of what they want to achieve is the war on terrorism is over. bin laden is dead. we are out of iraq. we are getting out of afghanistan. this is winding down. >>clayton: is it possible, though, we had early debate, and a liberal talk show host said there was a my libya that co-opted all the violence unfolding as a result of the movie so the intelligence was muddled and that is why the obama administration put this out? >>governor huckabee: that doesn't work. if that were the case the proper response from jake canne, from susan rice and the president himself and those talking on talking point pages because the words are identical. those are not spontaneous words

but identical phrases and words. everyone has been given a script and they read it. that is how it works. the fact is, if that was the case, what they would have said and the prudent thing to say is we don't know we are investigating that is not what they did. they were explicit. they absolutely declared this was a spontaneous mob reaction to a film. with the libyan president saying no, it wasn't the film, or the jerusalem post, posted a september 4 letter on september 11, before the attack, saying there was going to be an uprising in egypt, two difficulties before the attack, the second in command in libya warned the state department officials that there was chatter, there was something going to happen. i'm sorry, it doesn't work. >>alisyn: governor, the first debate coming up this week, will the moderator go off the land and talk about some of this stuff? it is supposed to be domestic issues. this is what is in the news.

will they talk to the candidates about this? >>governor huckabee: absolutely. it is the 800-pound elephant in the room. i think it will look silly for them to say, no, we can't talk about the single most important issue that could determine the outcome of this election. that would be ridiculous to ignore. >>dave: there are different things that the governor can do at this point, one is introducing humor as you have in the past. another is maybe show some emotion as the governor do in a for rum you had this year. let's show this moment from your debate a couple of years ago and see if romney can do something similar. watch. >>guest: instead, what we have done is what senator john mccain has suggested. we had a congress that spent money like john edwards at a beauty shop. it is high time we have a different kind of tax structure. a fair tax would get us there. >> will mitt romney employ humor? or is that a mistake? >>governor huckabee: if it

is natural, yes, any forced humor comes across as phony and ridiculous. >>alisyn: hold on. the zingers get attention. should the zingers be inserted. >>governor huckabee: only if he can carry it off. there is nothing worse than a forced zinger when it looks like i have been planning this all day long and now it doesn't really fit but here goes. it needs to be spontaneous. that is when humor works when people are not expecting it. >>dave: what about emotion? he showed it to you in the forum a couple of months ago. will that work? is that something he should tackle? >>governor huckabee: it was a natural moment, a powerful moment. he needs to go into it. here is my advise to mitt romney, not that he asked for it, but here it is, don't go overprepared that is the mistake people make. they are too prepared. they are so filled with information they forget passion and emotion.

spend the day before the debate forgetting this stuff the go out, read a good book, it is by the lake, do something that takes your mind away from it but fill your heart and your expert with emotion. when you walk into the debate you know the "stuff," don't worry about the stuff. look at the other person, the moderator. go for the heart and soul. >> we will have you stick around, does he need to go on the attack as he does with newt gingrich if he destroyed him in that debate. >>governor huckabee: he needs to be bold and assertive. he has to be careful, however, he wants to be respectful of the office of the president. he must do that. but he cannot act as if he is not worthy of standing on the stage. he has to go after the position and policies of president without going after the office of the president. that is the key thing. >>alisyn: stick around. there was a warning for america

tests,hen they actually are rolled out commercially, what they will be able to do is identify children that are likely to develop autism at a up younger able. now it is common to wait years for the diagnosis which delays treatment and delays help for the children for a long-term. what this test is likely to do is allow us to provide treatment to get to the kids well before the age of one. >>alisyn: thank you, doctor. there is a blood different that can help parents realize their children have autism before they see the warning signs? >>guest: we are talking about gene mutations. it has been identified that perhaps 20 percent to 30 percent of autism spectrum behavior could be linked to a gene alteration. we all have gene files that can affect the development of our behavior so this is looking for the alterations. it is similar, for instance, for folks with breast cancer to have a family gene. we can test the family and

follow women and say, okay, you should get your mammograms more frequently. this is one new step in perhaps looking at children in the high-risk category. in other words, where they have a sibling or cousin in the immediate family with autism. then you see if they carry that marker. early enter recommendation is key. >>alisyn: doctor, how would earlier diagnosis help the kids? >>guest: one thing we know for sure is that the earlier you start treatment, the better the outcome. what the gold standard treatment that is well supported now by decades of research is applied behavior analysis. the goal of treatment is to teach as many skills as possible to catch the child, typical development as possible. the earlier you start the less work you have to do. the more likely you are to succeed in helping that child gain as many skills as possible. >> as the parent of an autistic

child how do you greet this news in how would this change your life? >>guest: i think it is important to realize this is not available yet. this is coming very soon. it still has to be organized. again, we are looking know specific gene mutations. here they do about 30 mutations at mount sinai and looking at whether or not we have to look at autism from a metabolic problem. are there medications you can introduce early on that could change the pathways of the neurons so when the child is in therapy they have a better understanding. it is a combination of many things. again, it is a part of the puzzle. the puzzle is still not complete. >>alisyn: any breakthrough is welcome. thank you both, doctors, for coming in and talking about this. >> parents, fearing their kid might town out like this.

republican congresswoman did not want the state department to send any money to the palestinian authority. she raised a similar objection. they went ahead and sent the money anyway so we don't know at this point if the state department will treat this objection to the egyptian money any differently. back to new york. >>alisyn: and now to the headlines, we start with a fox news alert right now. we are learning that yesterday morning, prison break in saddam hussein's hometown was "an inside job." iraqi leaders say a few guards helped inmates, many of them al qaeda members, escape by leaving cell doors unlocked. they smuggled weapons inside during family visits. more than 100 got out after an hour's long gun battle. so far, only 23 inmates have been captured. 20 people were killed during the prison break. >> another day, another blunder for the t.s.a., a day after the t.s.a. in orlando missed a loaded gun in a woman's bag, the

"new york post" reports it happened a again. a vice president for the hornets plane flew from new orleans to newark. agents found the gun. he claims he accidentally took his wife's bag earlier. the house transportation committee says it is proof that t.s.a. must be reformed. >> obviously, the people not trained. the equipment is not being rated properly. the folks that hired are not even vetted properly. >> we need to get t.s.a. reorganized and get them back to security, connecting the dots, and conducting oversite, setting standards. >>alisyn: t.s.a. cannot explain how the guns went unnoticed. parents in south carolina do not want their children turning into this. >>guest: the problem with that line that this is the best we can do, always played the clips, that was president obama, and vice president biden and so many of the economists who told us four years ago we are going to get out of this mess and we will have a very robust recovery. i just shows the clip and president obama said he would be a one-termer if things are not turned around. have we turned things around? it is dicey. if you look at what happened this week with the g.d.p. numbers that came out, very weak, 1.3 percent growth. that is a third of where we should be. we have $5 trillion in debt. the deficit has not been cut in half. instead, it has actually doubled. when president came in it was $500 billion and now it is $1 trillion. the theme of the re-election campaign could be promises made, promises broken. >> the argument is this recession is different than any we have seen before. in context, we will put up

growth in the first 12 quarters after world war ii, talking about the reagan recovery in the mid-80's at 18.5 percent and obama's recovery is 6.7 percent. what do you make of the president's argument this recession is unlike anything we have seen before? ing it is a hard argument when you look at what happened in 1981 and 1982 when president reagan was elected. he inherit add great economic crisis. i graduated from college at that time with a college degree. you could barely get a job as a bugger flipper. you remember we had 14 percent inflation and 20 percent mortgage interest rates of the my point is the economy was a wreck then. but in three years ronald reagan had turned around the economy. we had 5 percent, 6 percent, 7 percent rate of economic growth and a month where we created a million jobs in one month. the economy did much better under the reagan program, which is cutting taxes, deregulating

the economy, slamming the brakes on the money supply. that would make the case that president obama has done the opposite. he has increased the spending. there is a threat of a huge tax increase next year. if you talk to business men and women as i do all the time, they say this regulatory onslaught is smothering. >>clayton: another argument is what would have resolved the recovery faster if you allowed us to pass a greater stimulus, more government spending would have accelerated our rate of recovery. do you buy that? >>guest: i don't think very many americans boy that. we have had $5 trillion of debt in four years. that is more debt than the united states took on from 1776 through the year 2000. in other words, in four years we have borrowed more money than it took to finance the revolutionary war, the civil war, world war i and world war ii and the great depression. i don't buy that. the idea that somehow if we had borrowed more pun we would be on

a faster rate of growth, that is like saying if we had unrun up our credit card more and had more of the subprime loans we would be in better shape. i don't find any logic to that. i think most americans think what we have to do now is stop the spending, stop the debt, if we are going to turn the economy around. >>clayton: and do not forget the spanish-american war. >>guest: i left that one out. and the cold war, of course. look, i do think we could see a recovery and that is why this debate next week is going to be so critical. both will talk about very different economic ideas on how to turn things around. >>clayton: thank you, we appreciate you joining us this morning and your analysis. >>guest: i am hungry after all the talk about bacon. >>clayton: well save some bacon. >> students rebelling against the new federally mandated healthy lunches. they state meals are not filling them up and the government is stepping in saying, just have a snack.

rice coming out on the sunday shows five days after the attack. what do you make of the statement from his office and what should people know about james clapper himself? >> well, james clapper is appointed by president obama to be head of domestic national intelligence. he's obviously falling on the sword of the president because it doesn't fit the president's political narrative 40-less days to a national election. look, the people know what we saw. we're smart. we know fact from fiction, and the fact of the matter is, people don't bring rpg's to a protest. there was no protest, as catherine herridge uncovered, with a fox news network. she says, and through her sources, that there were no protests prior to the attack. the president didn't want a terrorist attack on his watch. so what does he do? he lies about it. and others like ambassador rice, or ambassador to the u.n., lies to the american people about it until the lies could not be sustained by the facts and we now know that not

only the-- will the president not admit it, but now those who work under him, subordinates admit the fact that this was a terrorist attack on our ambassador to our ambassador and to three other americans who were killed. >> dave: even trying to give the administration the benefit of the doubt. all right, if you didn't have your ducks in a row why not come out and say this investigation is still ongoing. it is still evolving we don't yet know, enstead of going out and putting the blame on this protest and related this youtube clip. it seems definitive. pull back the curtain for us. it has to go out way to the top, does it to send someone like susan rice, who could be our next secretary of state out to the sunday host with this mission, and where does the message come from? >> it comes from the white house. the white house directs the subordinates when to go on the air and what to say. the president has superior knowledge to his subordinates, i want to know what the

president knew and when he knew it and i was a member of the president's senior staff, george w. bush was briefed every morning at 7:00 not only by the cia, but also the fbi, did the president have a personal briefing. we know he did not have a personal briefing after the attack on september 12th. now, was he briefed on paper? what did the president did do? we know the president allows subordinates to go out and say this was not a terrorist attack. in fact the president gave the fodder to our enemies by saying that the youtube video was the cause, when he knows it was not. so the president was complicit in the escalation of violence we've seen throughout the world and the political put -- president put his political state above ours. >> dave: and we always like to ask the question, what if president bush would have done this? what do you think the uproar would have been like? >> they would have been talking impeachment. the president, was derelict in

unprecedented rate. both to us and the cost to the end users, so, with all of these unfunded mandates that are involved in this, we don't have a clue what our rate is going to go up this year. last year, it was almost 20%, but our employees, the policy that we could buy them is almost unusable for them because the deductables are so high. it's not only the poor business owner, but able to provide for our employees is unusable. it's a nail in the coffin. and i don't know how else to say it. >> alisyn: in fairness, when you're talking about the vast increases you've seen over the past three years, that was obviously before obama care kicked in, and that was exactly what president obama had used to justify passing obama care when he said there are the spiraling health care costs so your costs were rising even without obama care, but. >> no doubt about it. >> alisyn: now, it sounds like, according again to the

national federation for independent business research foundation, that's a mouthful, your taxes could go up by 3%. what does it mean for your future and your employees? >> what it means is, if we see another year or two what we've seen in the past two years, we will, we will no longer be providing health care for our 58-- you know, we've got 52 full-time employees that we pay 100% on their health care and that will go away. as simple as that. we cannot absorb the cost any longer for the way the stuff is going up. >> clayton: what about laying people off? we've heard from individuals and spoken to small business owners who are saying they have to go through seminars to try to figure out how obama care will impact their small business and whether or not they can hire individuals or have to lay folks off. what is your experience in all of this? >> well, you know, for us, i can't lay people off because i've got to have x amount of team to do the labor hours needed to stay open. what i have to do is look at ways of reducing my costs of those individuals to the business. and so, it comes to a point

where you have to make a simple decision, health care, close the doors. health care, close the doors. there's nothing in between. there's no magic pool of cash left any longer that you can go to to pull this money out. you can't pass the cost on to the consumers. every time you raise the price in a business like ours, you price yourself beyond a certain portion of your customer and you reduce your sales. and it's-- as i say, it's a nail in the coffin. for my own personal belief what this administration wants, forcing small business to go to a national health care system because we're not going to be able to afford it and it's going to be a lot cheaper for us to pay the penalty, not only cheaper, the only way we can survive. we're not going to be able to absorb the cost and we're going to have no choice, but to tell all of your employees, we can't do this anymore now they've got to find their own and in my own personal opinion, this is what our liberal mindset wants is

person this week. the white house says they discussed a range of security issues and agreed they must prevent iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. shortly after that, mitt romney also speaking with netanyahu about the country that he calls the world's greatest national security threat. >> we have very much the same interests to make sure that iran does not develop nuclear capabilities, which is would threaten the existence of israel, threaten devastation, potentially of other nations of the world, and we must make every effort to prevent them from developing that nuclear capability. >> romney says he believes there's a way to stop iran without military action. well, republican congresswoman kate ranger, not so fast. wants to send egypt 50 million dollars in aid as usual the head of the house committee on foreign operations says i'm not convinced of the urgent need for the assistance and

cannot support it. i've placed a hold on these funds. numerous lawmakers called for congress to cut off aid to egypt after anti-american protesters stormed the embassy in cairo, the u.s. embassy and the u.s. gives egift more than 1 1/2 billion dollars a year in aid. an amber alert issued in nashville for two children missing nearly a week after their house burned down. nine-year-old chloe and her seven-year-old gauge daniel living with their step grandparents. the grandparents were killed in the fire, but investigators do not believe the children were. they've questioned the children's mother and she says she does not know where they are. they do not believe the fire was arson. >> and is spanking child abuse? well, delaware may think so, there's a new law that says that a person is guilty of child abuse in the third degree if the person recklessly or intentionally causes physical injury to a child through act of abuse or

knows how to discipline children. >> no tough love in our house, we have no sleep, we go in when they cry, i mean, i'm maybe not a good-- >> and stop that-- >> way to go, janice, like my house, too. >> there's little not for very long. a look at the weather, shall we? it's still gray and cloudy in new york, and the temperatures in the 50's, you can see across the northern tooeshgs the northeast cooler than average temperatures and as you head across the west, warmer than average and across the south as well. taking a look at the satellite radar imagery, we have a little low pressure off the coast of the northeast, a potential for showers and thunderstorms and things should clear out by sunday, at least one good day of the two and then headed down to texas where we've got this massive system tapping into a lot of tropical moisture. in some cases, four, five, even six inches of rain in some of moisture starved area.

too much of a good thing will cause a flash flooding and watches and warnings that stretch from texas to portions of louisiana and mississippi and the system is going to eventually move eastward and he think the next map is going to show us where the flash flood watches and warnings are. there it is and you can see much of the lonestar state and across the gulf coast, quite a bit of moisture in a short period of time. i want to point out as well, tropical storm nadine has been with us for 18 days now. and this is one of the longest lasting systems that we have had in the atlantic. and it's going to continue to kind of hang on for the next several days, so watch nadine, the good news is, not going to affect any land. of course on a day like today we could use good news and there's no rain and that's also a good thing for the hairdo. going to my left to clayton home depot to talk about some man type things. >> clayton: i'm not worried about nadine, she sleeps in mama's family's basement.

not a threatening hurricane. >> is that like mama's family reference? >> i think so. stick with me, kid. >> okay. >> clayton: mike cartozza-- >> yeah, google nadine, i don't know if that's true or not. you can google home depot.com and get great tips on home projects and i'll say this is home for me, because my front walkway is dark and it needs lighting and simple way to add some safety and some illumination and quite lighting to your outside area. you hit on the two key things. >> what does outdoor lighting mean? it's the ambiance and the photographs to do with outdoor lighting. you can light different parts of your landscape. highlight different architectural parts of your house and the safety. studies show that one of the best deterrents to crime at night is light. a well-lit house is a safer

house. >> clayton: growing up in cherry hill park, and broken into, no lights in the back yard and-- no lights. we've got a sample and there's all kinds of different kinds and we talk about what they do for you, there's different looks and styles and it's all low voltage, if you're worried about electricity and electrical projects, you don't have to worry about that, but there are also solar powered ones. a nice variety of lights and do all kinds of things, let's talk about the process how you put them in. >> and doesn't seem to be intimidating. >> these are from malibu, a fantastic job, leaders for lighting in your home. you can get a kit or just bethe pieces individually and basically you need a gfci outlet first of all, right to the outside and you want it covered so it's nice and protected. first you start with the power pack. you can hang it on the wall of your house or put it on a stick. if you don't want to attach it to the house, but this is where it starts.

the wire comes out of the bottom. attaches to the wire and view into the bottom. very. very simple to do the next step is to actually put the lights together and generally come in two pieces and the wiring fits in the channel. and it pops in there, if i can get in there and then it tests on and you skroo you -- screw it on, and for a range here, we're uplighting a tree, you could put lights in the tree to give a moonlight effect which is beautiful or put them on the ground to light the tree and make them stand out. arrange them around the tree and figure out, spacing between them, how many you need. the next thing is to actually put it into the ground. now, one would think that the people kind of hammer these into the ground and they're sturdy and made to be outside and not meant to be hammered. get a garden tool and slide them in the ground. the next most important step is the connection. you'll see at the bottom, a

wire is coming out and it's easier to see. each has a little connector and basically two pieces, lien that up. two prongs at the top and they snap together. the wire goes in the middle of this, when it snaps together. that tells you that the connections have been made and they poke into the wire and again, it's low voltage and that's all you need to do. >> then you're done. >> do we have a finished photograph of what this would look like. >> we have a photograph to show what it looks like when it lights up. the last step, the wire, you may want to move these around once you get it done and check it and plug it in and working and may want to put it in a different arrangement and once that's done and confirm they're working then you can bury the cable or cover it up, cover it up with the mull being. and as long as you don't see it, and it's totally perfect to be sitting there just under the surface. >> check out everything at home depot.com for more tips how to improve our outdoor state. and thank you so much. it just came to me, guys, it's

view online and co-author of who is counting, good to see you, john. >> thank you. >> we mentioned the two types of early voting, and we can describe the difference. >> sure. early voting is when you go to government office before election day and cast your battle under the supervision of election officials. ab seen tee, you apply for the ballot in the mile and you mail it back. >> why, one is 34 states, including d.c. has early voting and who tends to be placing these early votes? >> well, it starts out with partis partisan, people who vote when they want and tend to be early. when you get close to the voting, independents and people who are undecided. i think that this is a growth of the convenient culture that we like in america, and we want everything, you know, now. we like fast food, we like convenient voting and i think

it's fine up to a point. but, i'm really troubled when people in north carolina andee aye already are voting and we haven't had the first presidential debate yet. 15% of the country is going to be able to vote before the first debate. if you were suing someone and you were in front of a jury, three or four of the jurors walked out in the middle of your lawyer's argument wouldn't you feel cheated, as if you didn't have a chance to complete your case. >> look at colorado and nevada. estimate that around two-thirds of the vote could have come from early voting, even in ohio, a crucial state. 1.7 million ballpark and 30%. now, obviously, military members have no choice, but overseas to fill out the absentee ballots. can anything be gathered, garnered from early voting being up or down, a particular battle ground state. obviously these are not counted or made public, can you gather anything from the

numbers early on in the process? >> well, i think there is some danger that a few are counting them early. oregon, for example, and you're right, in almost all cases they're not counted until election day. now, i do think that this kind of change has really happened without people fully understanding how much it's going to alter our election process. you know, 5% of people voted early or ab seen tee, now it's 40% this year. it changes the tenor of the campaign i think we spend more money on politics. there's a theory that early voting benefits democrats and absentee date yeah republicans, there's no clear hard data. >> dave: interesting. and the book is from who's counting, thank you, sir. >> thank you. >> dave: up next, alana stewart is joining us, talking about her rise to family and famous ex's.

it. rod stewart, what was it like to be married to rod stewart? >> well, you know, in the beginning it was an incredible romantic fantasy and we had an amazing relationship and marriage, and we had two little children and i had my third son from my marriage with george, and you know, things slowly start to change. you know, and i talk about the-- that in the book, you know, i talk about my marriage because obviously it was an important part of my life and i fell apart emotionally and physically when it broke up. it was a very difficult time for me in the end. >> alisyn: and then you met george hamilton actually the other way around, i met george when i was young and come from texas and modeling from new york, and i was lucky because he was a terrific guy then and now. i could have met a real jerk. >> alisyn: oh. >> i was young and naive. >> alisyn: and you're still good friends now. >> we're very good friends, yes. >> alisyn: was he as tan then when you were with him as he

is now? >> i went to acapulco to do a modeling job when i first started modeling, walking along the beach and saw this figure come towards me and it was george ma'am ill ton, walking along in a bathing suit and sun reflector in the arm. and he walked guy me, didn't look at me, didn't glance side ways and i thought he was the most gorgeous thing did i ever see. little did i ever imagine. >> wow, he is gorgeous. >> alisyn: so let's talk about your life in hollywood and what it's like for you. because you game from very meager gengs. very meager beginnings. >> alisyn: what was it like. >> growing up with my grandmother on a dirt road in the country, and had an out house. and weeks we would live on potato soup. and i learned deep core, texas values and she was a woman of faith and she had a great belief in god. and i think that that period of time up until i was nine years old was probably what

got through me some-- got me through some very difficult challenges in my life. >> alisyn: in fact, you, i think, would describe yourself as right of center politically. >> yes, definitely, i'm in the right place. >> alisyn: you are conservative. >> yes, i am. >> alisyn: and so what has that been like to be in hollywood particularly during this whole election cycle? >> well, the interesting thing, and i was telling something that when-- many friends most of my friends are liberals and used to talk all the time our past president bush and bashed and now they don't politics nearly so much and i think it's because maybe they're a little disappointed an in president obama and i'm certainly disappointed and i keep hearing all of these promises that he needs four more years and well i say let's finish off the last four first. >> alisyn: and growing up poor, and how you had to have sort of up by your boot straps mentality and i assume that's informed your political view.
